NMPs: CJC now 4 in Parliament

Recently the Government officially announced that 9 NMPs had been appointed for a three-year term to the Parliament. Among them are two distinguished Singaporeans and ex-CJCians: Dr Pauline Straughan and Ms Audrey Wong.

Dr Pauline Straughan nee Tay Pau Lin (1980/1981) is the current Vice Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (NUS). She is also a former student of CHIJ (Victoria St). Pauline is a sociologist who has specialized in family issues which she has also nominated as one her areas which she would like pursue as an NMP. As her favourite quote in a recent newspaper article she quoted Corinthians 13: “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love”.
Ms Audrey Wong Wai Yen (1984/1985) , and former student of CHIJ (Toa Payoh) is the current artistic co-director of The Substation arts venue. Her favourite quote comes from Mahatma Gandhi: “Be he change you want to see in this world” and it looks like she is trying to put that into practice. Audrey was listed in ST ( 29.7.09) as a future possible contender for the position of NAC Chairman.

CJC congratulates two eminent CJCians and wishes them every blessing as they tread new ground as NMPs in the years to come. They join other ex-CJCians Cynthia Phua (1975/76) and Jessica Tan (82/83).
