CJC On The MOVE!

Joshua Goh with Mrs Christine Kong (Principal, CJC) at the 2010 PSC Scholarships Ceremony. Joshua has been awarded the President’s Scholarship and the Singapore Armed Forces Overseas Scholarship to study Chemistry at London’s Imperial College.
Catholic Junior College celebrated another year of academic excellence when, for the first time in its history, it awarded a total of 27 scholarships to its most promising JC1 students at its Annual Awards Ceremony on 30 April. It is an indication of how far CJC has progressed in the last eight years in reducing the entry cut-off to 10 points for Science and 11 points for the Arts, and building a large group of talented students.
Ten of our JC1 students studying English Language and Linguistics (ELL) have been awarded the prestigious ELEP (English Language Elective Programme) Scholarship valued at $1000 per annum by the Ministry of Education. They had to go through a rigorous selection process, vying with candidates from the other 2 ELEP Centres in Singapore, Raffles Institution and Anglo-Chinese Junior College. We now have a total of 19 ELEP Scholars this year.

The College has also launched 2 new scholarships, the Archbishop’s Scholarship and the Flame Scholarship, with the objective of developing students who have high academic ability and exceptional talents. These scholarships were mooted by the CJC Management Board and alumni who wanted to give our students the opportunity to excel in their various fields. The Archbishop’s Scholarship, valued at $1500 per annum, is given to JC1 students who show great academic promise. The Flame Scholarship, valued at $750 per annum, is granted to JC 1 students who have special talents in either the performing arts or sports, especially in the college’s niche areas. This year 7 JC1 students have won the Archbishop’s Scholarship while 10 have obtained the Flame Scholarship.

In addition to these 27 scholars, the college has a total of 22 ASEAN Scholars this year. Further indication of CJC’s climb up the academic ladder is that our top scholar for the GCE ‘A’ Level Examination in 2009 and Ee Peng Liang Award winner, Joshua Goh Koon Leong has been awarded the coveted President’s Scholarship and the Singapore Armed Forces Overseas Scholarship. He will be taking up Chemistry at London’s Imperial College.

CJC is definitely moving up!!
