CJC GRADUATE EXCELS

SUZANNE SEAH LI HUA (T07, Batch 2003/04)

Suzanne came to CJC from CHIJ (Toa Payoh) in 2003 with an L1R5 of 7 points. She was not only an excellent and articulate Arts student but she was also very involved in the Drama program. A Catholic, she was also a regular at Mass each week. Her Tutors remember her well for her cheerfulness and very energizing personality.
Suzanne graduated in 2004 and proceeded to Nanyang Technological University where she majored in English and Psychology in the school of Humanities & Social Sciences. She graduated on 23 July last with a Bachelor of Arts in Pscychology (First Class Honours) and with outstanding accolades: the Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medal for top student in her Faculty, University Scholars Award and Valedictorian as the top student. She spoke at the Convocation on Friday 24th July.

During her years in NTU, Suzanne was also named the NTU President Research Scholar, on the Dean’s list many times, and awarded the Tan Sri Dr Tan Chin Tuan Scholarship,the Tan Sri Dr Runme Shaw Scholarship and the Chu Sze-Yi Book Prize.

The University Scholars Award has an attached $5,000.00 award, in the name of the teacher that the awardee identified – Mr Augustine Chan ( her English and Drama teacher in College). The Award will support a student studying in NTU, and identified by Mr Chan, for his/her studies in that University.

Suzanne has truly distinguished herself in University. She plans to pursue post graduate studies in Clinical Psychology after her current work attachment to the Institute of Mental Health where she is doing some research work. WE congratulate Suzanne Seah on her commendable and distinguishing achievements.

CJCians grab 17 TEACHING SCHOLARSHIPS

At the recent Teaching Scholarship Presentation Ceremony 2009, the Ministry of Education presented 17 ex-CJCians with a Teaching Award or a Teaching Scholarship (Local or Overseas). CJCians - more Scholarships

At NTU: Cheung See Lin (2T19, 2006) was accepted into the CN Yang Scholars Program at NTU on 28 August. He will be commencing studies in Mechanical Engineering having just ended his NS commitments. See Lin was a former Maris Stella High student who has always displayed great value add in his exam results. He took S papers at A levels also scoring a Merit and a Distinction for Maths and Physics respectively. We congratulate him on his success and wish him well with his future studies.

At SMU: Gerald Fok Pui Hang (Batch 2006) who was recently awarded a SPRING Executive Development Scholarship 2009. Gerald is studying for a Bachelor of Science (Economics) at SMU.

YALE - HERE I COME! Reuben Ng (1999/2000), President of the 24th Student Council in CJC, who not only distinguished himself in his undergraduate studies in NUS but also in postgraduate work. He was given a Scholarship to do his Masters in Oxford and more recently was awarded the International Fulbright Science and Technology Award to pursue his PhD at Yale University, USA. An eminent young Singaporean and one to watch in the years to come.

ALMOST PRESIDENT’S SCHOLAR

Cheryl Chan (2008) was our top student (Science) in the A level examinations 2008. Cheryl was the only recipient of the Public Service Commission Scholarship (Medicine), and recently among the 16 short-listed candidates – out of a total of 83 PSC Scholars, selected for interview for President Scholar. She did not make the last 6 but we are immensely proud of Cheryl and congratulate her on getting thus far. Well done!
