CJC REMAINS VIGILANT & WILL KEEP UP PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES AGAINST H1N1

This notice is to update parents on how we are managing the H1N1 situation in Catholic JC. As the H1N1 virus has become prevalent in global communities including Singapore, we will continue to remain vigilant and keep up precautionary measures to slow the spread of the virus in our college.

Screening Measures: We will continue to screen the students, staff and visitors who are entering the college premises for fever and flu-like symptoms, and conduct twice daily temperature taking. In the event that your child displays a fever and/or flu-like symptoms, we seek your understanding to bring your child to see a doctor and rest at home.

Social Distancing Measures: To reduce the risk of a spread of H1N1 within the college community, we will continue to assign seating for students, in lectures & tutorials. In addition, we will continue to issue Leave of Absence (LOA) to all college staff and students who are in close contact with confirmed H1N1 cases. For students on LOA and/or MC during this period, all teaching programs are being placed on COLAC and we will monitor the students’ progress through channels, such as telephone and email.

Hygiene Practices: We will continue to remind students to maintain high standards of personal hygiene and exercise social responsibility. The college will continue to keep our premises clean.

Resume Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs): CCAs will resume on Monday, 20 July 2009. The college will take necessary precautionary measures such as attendance taking, temperature taking and visual screening before the start of each activity. CCA activities will be for JC1 students only.

Monitoring Students on Medical Leave: MOH has revised its approach in tracking H1N1 cases, testing only suspected H1N1 cases of those in high-risk groups. Doctors will issue Medical Certificate (MC) to patients with influenza-like illness who do not require hospitalisation and are not likely to be tested for H1N1. It has been an on-going practice for students to submit their MC to the college when deemed unfit by a doctor. In view of MOH’s revised approach, we have to be vigilant and will step up our measures in tracking students with MCs to reduce the risk of a spread of H1N1 within the college community. As such, should your child be issued an MC by a doctor, it is crucial that you inform the college office immediately.

What Parents/Guardians Can Do: Before your child leaves for college, you can take his/her temperature and look out for any flu-like symptoms. If your child is unwell, we seek your cooperation to exercise social responsibility by seeking medical attention for your child and ensuring that your child is well before returning to college. If anyone is unwell at home, you can offer a mask to the unwell person and minimise his/her contact with your child. Please reinforce our reminders on personal hygiene and encourage your child to practise good personal hygiene at home.

We seek your cooperation and understanding in our efforts to implement these measures. Let us work together to keep our college open, and safeguard the health of our students. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and keep staff, parents and students updated on new developments.

Should you have any queries, you can call the college at Tel: 62524083
